  BABOON STREET
BABOON STREET
Image 1: View of Baboon Street from the Piazza del Popolo
Baboon Street (Via del Babuino) starts from the north-west side of the Piazza di Spagna and leads to the piazza del Popolo. It takes its name from the Silenus statue (one of the talking statues of Rome) that decks the Baboon fountain actually located along the street close to the Sant'Atanasio church.
The road, originally known as Paolina Trifaria, was marked out in 1525 by Clement VII and completed in 1543 by Paul III; it is still famous for its antique workshops and private galleries, where it is possible to visit art exhibitions of italian and foreign artists, and also for majestic palaces and smart shops which face onto the street.
Baboon street, together with via del Corso and Ripetta street, forms the so-called "Trident" (Tridente) with he "twin" churches Santa Maria dei Miracoli and Santa Maria in Montesanto which define the junctions of these three roads.

Location: Rione Campo Marzio (Campus Martius District)
